Bert is responsible for oversight and administration of Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s $6.5 billion of charitable capital across numerous portfolios. He and his staff work closely with the foundation's leadership, investment committee and consultants to implement the foundation's investment policies and philosophy. The award winning article, Investment Manager Diversity: The Hardest Taboo to Break, was co-authored by Dr. Emmett Carson, CEO and president of SVCF, and Mike Miller, Managing Director of Colonial Consulting. Bert has worked with Colonial Consulting to establish manager diversity objectives and metrics, and to identify managers and implement best practices. Bert joined the foundation in 2004 after sixteen years at Franklin Templeton Investments. He is a volunteer advisor to the UC Davis Foundation Finance & Investment Committee, and speaks regularly on investment best practices for nonprofit fiduciaries and impact investing strategies.
